The Gymnastics Ethics Foundation Appoints Giovanni Maria Fares as its New Executive Director

The Gymnastics Ethics Foundation (GEF) is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Giovanni Maria Fares as its new Executive Director, effective 1 November 2025.

Giovanni is a Swiss-qualified lawyer with extensive experience in arbitration and sports law. He joins the Foundation from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), where he has served as Counsel for the past five years. His strong background in integrity and disciplinary matters, combined with his deep understanding of governance and institutional processes, will be instrumental in further strengthening the Foundation’s mission and impact and elevating it to the next level.


GEF President Micheline Calmy-Rey said: “We warmly welcome Giovanni to our Foundation. His values and experience will be key for promoting an ethical sport and further supporting and protecting the entire gymnastics community”.


Giovanni commented: “It is a true honour to join the Gymnastics Ethics Foundation and to contribute to its vital mission of promoting integrity and protecting those at the heart of our sport. I look forward to working with the President, the Board, our dedicated team, and all stakeholders to continue strengthening trust and ethics across the gymnastics community".


The Foundation also wishes to express its gratitude to Mr Simon Geinoz for his commitment and steady guidance as Interim Director, ensuring a smooth transition for the organisation.
